OK we know - we talked about a lot on the phone earlier today. The only reason it’s such a lengthy conversation is because we’ve been doing this for a long time now, and we try to make it as seamless as possible based off of what we’ve learned from our experiences.
Here’s a summary of everything we talked about. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions if something doesn’t seem right to you.
To view your schedule, go to http://www.mallyact.com/schedule. Your username is your student’s first initial and last name (for instance, Shane Mally’s username would be smally), and your temporary password is Temp1234. You’ll be prompted to change your password when you log in for the first time.
All changes to your schedule will be updated in real time, and your log in is your source to everything schedule-related. Please bookmark that site for your records
You will receive email reminders approximately 24 hours before each session, and text message reminders if you’d like, too. Just let the front desk staff know!
It’s important that you don’t unsubscribe from our emails so you can ensure that you’re receiving all of the scheduling updates.
Our 48-Hour Cancellation Policy
If you cancel your session(s) without providing us with at least 48 hours of notice and we are unable to fill the session with another student, you’ll be invoiced for the full cost of the session(s) that you cancelled.
In fairness to other students, parents, and tutors, we have to be very strict with our cancellation policy, so please understand that that there are no exceptions.
If it is an ACT or SAT session, we encourage you to email the us your practice tests before the start of the session. Since you are paying for this time with the tutor, our tutors will spend the hour scoring the test(s) and writing a report which will be emailed to you afterwards.
Out of respect for other students who might need sessions, all Monday and Tuesday sessions must be canceled by 12:00 PM on the Saturday before the scheduled session.
Rescheduling a session means that you are cancelling one session to schedule a new session. If you attempt to do this within the 48-hour window, you’ll still be invoiced for the entire session.
Completing Practice Tests (ACT/SAT sessions only)
For your first scheduled sessions at our office, we’ll email you links to print your practice test(s) to print and complete prior to the session.
In an effort to simulate the actual testing environment, students should be provided with a quiet place to take practice test(s).
We know that schedules are hectic, but try to take practice tests on weekend mornings.
Students should avoid taking practice tests when they might be mentally drained, so we’d encourage students not to take their practice tests at school or right after school, after doing homework, or late at night.
Before taking your next practice test(s), students should spend time reviewing all previously completed practice tests and focus on the strategies applied to land on the correct answers. It helps to keep all Mally A.C.T. handouts by your side while reviewing the practice tests for more detailed explanations of concepts and strategies.
Students should take each practice test in one sitting and follow all time limits to the exact second.
If necessary, parents should help with this process
To help our tutors determine where timing breakdowns may occur, students should record how much time they have remaining after every two pages.
If students do not complete the test when the time limit expires, they should draw a line on the test where the time expired, finish all unanswered problems, and record how much extra time was required to finish the test.
At the end of each session, students will be given passwords to download their next practice test(s) from mallyact.com.
Please do not wait until the last second to download and print practice tests.
All practice tests downloaded from our site will have a questionnaire to fill out. To keep parents involved in the process, these questionnaires require a parent signature.
Students should come prepared with their school book(s) and all past handouts, homework, tests, and quizzes.
In an effort to make this session as productive as possible, students should have a list of questions and concepts they want to discuss in the session.
It’s important to remember that we’re not “homework helpers”. We’re here as a guide and resource to help students better understand difficult concepts.
During The Session
All of our sessions are scheduled on the hour. If the student arrives late for a session, the session will still end on the hour. If your tutor is running behind, your child will still receive the full 60 minutes.
Handouts will be provided as necessary.
Our tutors have three target areas to improve student efficiency for each ACT/SAT session:
Remediate for content
Provide Mally Strategies, and
For math sessions only:
Any of the TI-84 Plus model graphing calculators is the ideal calculator for students to use. TI-83 Plus and TI-Nspire CX graphing calculators are also acceptable. If the student has a different calculator and is unsure about its capabilities, please contact us.
A productive session is one in which the student comes prepared with all assignments completed at optimal test-taking times in a quiet environment. The student has reviewed all past tests and handouts and is focused during the session.
Payment for your first session at our office will be taken by credit card over the phone. After that, payment is expected at the time that services are rendered. We accept cash, check, or all major credit cards. Please make checks payable to “Mally A.C.T.”
There will be a $5 printing fee per practice test for students that come unprepared to their session without their practice test(s) printed out.
Schools closing due to bad weather does not have an impact on Mally A.C.T. We are open regardless of the weather. Please take advantage of the weather forecast and plan accordingly.
We encourage you to print out a copy of this for your records. If you’d like, here’s a link to download and print it out.
